To answer the call of Earth Day, with assistance of our elderly helpers, we joined hands with #HandsOnHK , #chomecaresa, and China Everbright Limited to reprocess the used plastic dispensers collected from hotels. Their pump heads were removed, and bottles were emptied out. Instead of ending in landfills, the used plastic bottles become recyclable, and portion of them are reused to store the soap we collected for coming distributions.
The soaps collected in the session were immediately taken to give the elderly neighbours living in Kwai Chung Estate which is next to our workshop. We aim to keep our elderly neighbours socially connected on the soap recycling platform.
Elderly are especially vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation – and it can have a serious effect on health. They deserve our concern and respected living after decades of work and contribution to the community. Due to their rich life experience, working and chatting with them are fruitful and interesting.
Last but not least, a big thank you to the China Everbright Limited volunteer team for their hard work and devotion. They contributed the whole afternoon to realize the mission.
