We recently held a soap recycling workshop for the elderly living at one of the aged home in Kwun Tong on 6 February 2024. The workshop aims to empower elderly residents by providing them with the opportunity to join our soap recycling session and assess the feasibility and effectiveness of such initiatives in supporting their well-being and engagement.
During the workshop, we witnessed elderly participants excel in the task. Their dedication and attention to detail were truly inspiring, and we observed a positive transformation in their confidence, sociability, and overall activeness although the workshop period is short.
One elderly man, who previously lacked confidence and always reluctant to join the activities at the aged home, pleasantly surprised us all. During the soap recycling workshop, he became talkative, actively engaging in conversation and even sharing his valuable experience and skills.
The aged home’s social worker highlighted the positive impact of the workshop on the elderly participants, such as boosting their self-confidence, enabling them to contribute to society through their own hands, and helping them stay connected with the world outside.
By recycling soap, we are not only promoting sustainability but also creating meaningful opportunities for the beloved elderly to make a valuable contribution to society.
